A diamond created with chemical vapour deposition (CVD) is being celebrated as the largest of laboratory-grown diamond to ever be certified by the International Gemological Institute (IGI).
Produced by Ethereal Green Diamond in Mumbai, the 50.25-carat ‘Shiphra’ was graded as having G colour and VS2 clarity. The emerald-cut polished stone was fashioned from a Type IIa rough crystal, which took approximately eight months to grow.
"This gemstone is a paradigm shifting breakthrough, surpassing 50 carats while exemplifying preeminent standards of sophistication and quality," says Tehmasp Printer, managing director of IGI India. "We are delighted to witness and support the remarkable advancement and popularity of lab grown diamonds IGI fostered 18 years ago, by opening our doors to the world's producers."
"We are immensely proud to introduce the world's largest lab-grown diamond," adds Hirav Anil Virani, managing director of Ethereal Green. "Certification by the prestigious International Gemological Institute further solidifies the authenticity and quality of this 50.25-carat diamond."
The diamond has already been sold to its namesake, Shiphra Jewelry, Ethereal Green says.
